Suripaco's Tormenta was found languishing on the back lot of a large Huacaya farm 2 years ago. He is a full Accoyo son of Torbio and an Apache daughter Accoyo America's Baby Jane. At approximately 18 months of age a skin biopsy revealed a follicular density of 62 follicles/cm2 (performed by Alpaca Consulting). The biopsy was repeated at 30 months-- demonstrating minimal change He settled his first females this summer--his first cria expected in June 2012. He is larger than most Torbio offsp ...

Extremely Fine Fleece

Details
LGF Aaron... Wow!! Fiber stats and a histogram at age 24 months that are hard to believe. So much so that Little Gidding Farm Suris sent in another sample from the same fleece and repeated the test in August of 2015, the same year, and the AFD was 16.5 instead of 16.4 with an SD of 3.5! So, the results were for the most part the same. We think that means the fleece on this male is VERY FINE and VERY UNIFORM!! Have you ever seen a fleece with a Comfort Factor of 100%?! He did not have any fibers greater than 30 micron at age 2 on those reports. To be fair, if you look at his biopsy at age 32 months it looks like there is the chance he had a few primaries that were in skin and greater than 30 microns. So, as he gets older we feel there will be a few greater than 30 micron. Still, pretty unbelievable.

Aaron is a grandson of Torbio and as much as we can tell from our research is 11/16 Accoyo. His sire Tormenta is half of that Accoyo lineage as he is 100% Accoyo and the Torbio son. The bottom half of Tormenta's certificate has NGG Accoyo Apache II, Uribe, and Ganador. His dam LGF Ariel has been a good production female for Little Gidding Farm Suris and the entire goal of that farm is to produce fine fleeced Suris for the yarn production in their mill. So, she has that fineness to her fleece herself. She has great herdsires in her pedigree in the likes of Inca, Sedoso, Zeus Rose, ATV Zepher, and PVA White Lightning. Overall, a person can safely say that Aaron has a solid pedigree and due to that he has a very good Suri conformation.

Aaron has great luster in that very fine fleece. It is an open lock structure that makes his fleece ideal for production and is the type especially loved by hand spinners. From his biopsy one can see that his density is 44.8 and that is a solid number. It is an Alpaca Consulting Services USA biopsy . From what we understand, their biopsies tend to have lower density numbers than ones done by Dr. Norm Evans. At Suri Symposium 2016, Dr. Evans said his research had the average Suri male coming in around 45 for density. We feel it's safe to say that Aaron has average to slightly above average density.

Ian Watts said this about Aaron's biopsy: "there is some variation in the primary AFD's but they are relatively fine for a Suri - the secondary population is fine and uniform. There is much to like about this alpaca as a future hersire, all other things being equal."
